1 1/2 cup lukewarm water
2 Tbsp dry yeast
1 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
4 eggs
1 1/2 cup hot water
1/2 tsp salt
10 cups flour
Custard Topping:
1 cup water
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup oil
2 eggs
1/2 can evaporated milk
1/2 cup sugar
3 Tbsp flour
dash of salt

Directions:
Directions:
Mix the lukewarm water and yeast together, let soak. Then add the rest of the dough ingredients. Mix together with a spoon. Let rise once and shape into kuchen. Meanwhile, bring water, sugar and oil to a boil for the custard topping. Beat this mixture and then add the eggs, evaporated milk, sugar, flour and salt. Roll out kuchen, lay flat into pie pan, prick with a fork and let rise 20 minutes. Top with cut up cooked fruit (prunes, peaches, apricots, etc.) or raw rhubarb or apple. Then add layer of custard topping and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Bake at 350º for 25 minutes.
