1 ½ C white flour
1 C yellow corn meal
3 tsp baking powder
4 tsp sugar
1 egg, beaten
1 ½ C milk or water
3 Tbs shortening

Directions:

Mix and sift dry ingredients. Add beaten egg, milk and shortening. Mix thoroughly and quickly. Keeping spoon at bottom of bowl, stirring in even widening circles. Pour into well greased, shallow pan. Bake at 425º until golden brown, about 25 minutes.
