1 lb chopped dates
1 c chopped nuts
4 T butter
1 1/2 c boiling water
1 t baking soda
2 eggs
3 c. flour
1 1/2 c. sugar
salt

Directions:
Directions:
Dissolve baking soda in 1 1/2 c. boiling water
add butter and let cool slightly
beat eggs in a separate bowl then add sugar, salt and stir to combine
add to the cooled water and butter mixture
stir in flour gradually until combined
add nuts and dates and pour into 2 greased loaf pans (or 3 small loaf pans)

chopping the dates is the most time consuming part of the recipe. You can purchase already chopped dates, however, they tend to make the bread dry.
