1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. Crisco
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk

Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. In large mixing bowl, cream together sugar, butter and Crisco. Add eggs one at a time until well incorporated. Add buttermilk and vanilla. In separate bowl, combine baking soda, baking powder, salt and flour. Add to wet mixture until well mixed.
Place workable amount on well floured surface. Dough will be very sticky - work in some flour and roll on well floured surface. Roll out using additional flour as needed. Cut out with cookie cutters. Bake on cookie sheets 10 minutes. Frost with cream cheese frosting, plain or dyed with different food coloring, and decorate.

Personal Notes:
Personal Notes:
I got this recipe from my good friend, Andi's mom. In college, we would go to her parents house in Michigan for the weekend. Her mom would always make these cookies for us when we came "home". She's just like Martha Stewart, so we always joked that I was one of her long-lost daughters!
This recipe makes a lot - they freeze really well with wax paper in between the layers.
