1 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup self-rising flour
1 egg
2 cups onion, chopped
1 cup buttermilk (enough to moisten all ingredients)

Mix all ingredients. Allow to sit for several minutes to rise. Drop by tablespoons into hot oil and deep fry until golden brown.
