2 C All-Purpose Flour
1 1/2 C Sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. ground nutmeg
1 tsp. ground cinnamon
3 large eggs, slightly beaten
1 C vegetable oil
1 C buttermilk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1 C fresh figs or dates, stems removed, chopped
1 C chopped pecans (Optional)

For Glaze
1 C sugar
1/2 C buttermilk
1 tsp. light corn syrup
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together flour, sugar, salt, baking soda and spices.
Blend together eggs, oil and buttermilk then blend into dry mixture. Stir in vanilla
Fold in figs and pecans. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 pan.
Bake at 325 for 45 minutes or until a wooden skewer inserted in center comes out clean.
Pierce top of cake several times and pour buttermilk glaze over warm cake.

For Buttermilk Glaze
Combine all ingredients in medium sauce pan. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes. Remove from heat and pour over cake.
