ORUS BUNDY (drafted, U. S. Army WW II 1942-46) left for the Army exactly one year after Pearl Harbor was bombed. He was on active duty in Italy and was in battles at Angio Beach Head. He was wounded in action and hospitalized ten or eleven months. He received the Silver Star for bravery and the Purple Heart.

OTIS BUNDY (drafted, U. S. Army WWII 1944-45) was wounded in action in the Battle of the Bulge in Braunschweig, Germany. The radial nerve in his right arm was injured.. He was hospitalized in Hereford, England, Daytona Beach, Florida and Memphis, Tennessee. He received the Purple Heart. Elizabeth shared that Mariann went to the town where Otis was hospitalized when she was visiting Neal's parents in England.

ELLIS BUNDY (volunteered, U. S. Navy 1946-48) left for basic training March 14, 1946. He shared that he was in the Great Lakes (Illinois) when Carol was born Mar. 20, 1946 and in Guam when Clemons was born Oct. 23 1947. He is considered a WWII veteran even though he was in Guam after the war. Their mission was to clean up following combat. As their ships came inland they had to clear the water of explosives intended for ships before landing. He stayed in Guam seventeen months. His ships were the USS Mitchell Transport and the USS Randall. He shared a story of interest. He told me that Japanese soldiers were found in coral caves, hiding out twenty years after the war. They had survived by eating coconuts, bananas,and fish.

VERNON BUNDY, M.D. (drafted, U. S. Army, March 14, 1951 - March 13, 1953, Korean War) was stationed at Fort Eustis, VA. (When he was drafted he was working on a big ranch in Oregon.) He served in Greenland, although he really wanted to go to Korea. Molly said she thought he was bored at Fort Eustis and so when they asked for volunteers to go to Greenland for 10 days he volunteered (you know the old army adage, never volunteer). They ended up staying months and months in Greenland.

THOMAS HAMPTON (drafted, U.S. Army WWII, December 2, 1942 - January 8, 1946 ; Tech-5 87th Cavalry 7th Armored Division) served in the Northern France and Rhineland Campaigns. He was wounded in action in Belgium in the Battle of the Ardennes (Battle of the Bulge) for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He also suffered severe frostbite to his hands and feet that affected him for the rest of his life. As a young girl, Charlotte remembers the terrible pain he experienced in the winters while tending to the livestock on the farm.

CHARLES W. OWEN (Kentucky Army National Guard) retired from the Army National Guard as a Master Sergeant(E-8) after 39 years, 8 months and 11 days of service. Two of those years were spent on active duty, one of which was spent in Korea after the Korean Conflict. He was a Combat Construction Foreman at the time of retirement.

GARY MARCUM (Captain, U.S. Air Force) was in officer training in San Antonio, Texas for three months in 1968, in missile training in Illinois, California and Grand Forks, North Dakota. He was in Texas ( Personnel Affairs), in Thailand (Personnel Officer); then he came back to states to Rickenbacker AFB in Columbus, Ohio and Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, Ohio.

WILLIAM REED Lieutenant William P. Reed, Jr., served in the US Navy from 1983 to 1990. He attended Nuclear Power Training School in Orlando, FL for six months, trained at the Prototype Training Facility in Ballston Spa, NY, for six months, and went to submarine school in Groton, CT. He was stationed six years in Hawaii, at Pearl Harbor (3 years at the Submarine Training Center as an instructor and 3 years on the USS Hawkbill, a nuclear submarine). “It was a good ship and served the Navy well.”

BARRY L. ROSE (volunteered, U.S. Army, Staff Sergeant(E-6), 1st Battalion 26th Infantry Regiment 1st Infantry Division, Vietnam) participated in several major operations including Operation Cedar Falls and Operation Bismarck. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Army Commendation Medal with Valor device for meritorious service and heroism.

BARRY L. ROSE II (U.S. Army, Spec-4(E-4), 3rd Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment, Operation Just Cause - Panama) participated in the initial invasion on December 20, 1989 to secure the airfield at Rio Hato. He was also involved in many follow-up missions including assisting in the release of political prisoners, securing the airfield at David, and search missions in western Panama for Noriega's top military leaders and officials. He was awarded the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal with Arrowhead device, Combat Parachutist Badge, and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

KENNETH LEE BUNDY (Army 106 Transportation Battalion 37th Trans Group) Basic Training and AIT in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and was stationed in Fűrth, Germany, August 1975 to August 1978.

NEAL LITTMAN (U.S. Marines Vietnam War)

SCOTT LITTMAN enlisted in the U.S. Navy September 2, l998, His Basic Training was in Great Lakes, IL. After that he was transferred to Pensacola, FL for aviation electronics training. Later in the enlistment Scott was transferred to Virginia Beach, VA to VF-102 Diamondbacks, and was deployed to the Indian Ocean on Sept. 18, 2001 (just one week after terrorist attacks of 9-11). He was stationed aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and worked on the F-148 Tomcat.

While on deployment the carrier broke a world record for 159 days at sea without a port. He served during Operation Enduring Freedom and his crew flew in missions in support of Operation Anaconda during the war in Afghanistan.

ROBERT BUNDY (U.S. Marines Desert Storm, Gulf War), Robbie, is now serving in the Kentucky National Guard.

MICHAEL BUNDY (U.S. Navy) joined the Navy soon after graduating from high school in 2004. He is stationed in Washington, just outside Seattle, on a nuclear submarine. He was originally on the USS Kentucky submarine.

WHITNEY BUNDY (Kentucky Army National Guard) had Officer's Training Course at Fort Knox, Kentucky in 2008.
