1 cup chopped onion
1 cup chopped carrots
2 t. butter or stick margarine
6 cups chicken broth
1 lb. fresh green beans, cut into 1 inch pieces
2-3 cups chopped ham
1 garlic clove, minced
3 cups diced fresh tomatoes
1/4 cup minced fresh basil or 1 T. dried basil
1/2 t. salt
1/4 t. pepper

Directions:
Directions:
In a large saucepan, saute onion and carrots in butter for 5 minutes. Stir in the broth, beans, ham and garlic; bring to a boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until vegetables are tender. Stir in the tomatoes, basil, salt and pepper. Cover and simmer 5 minutes longer.

Fresh is best, but I make this soup in the Winter and use frozen and canned vegetables.
