3 1/2 c. flour, all-purpose
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1 c. milk
6 stiffly beaten egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour and measure, then sift again, add salt. Cream shortening and sugar thoroughly, add sifted dry ingredients alternately with milk and the vanilla. Beat well after each addition. (Save about 1/2 c. flour and add baking powder, to be added the very last thing). Fold in egg whites. Bake in 3 x 9" greased pans in moderate oven (350 degrees) for 30 minutes or until cake begins leaving the side of the pan. Do not overcook.

A beautiful, moist, and delicious cake! Lauren's wedding cake was made from this recip, along with Mama Kip's lemon-cheese filling between the layers and frosted with buttercream white icing!
