1-cup (all purpose) flour 1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup sugar 1/2 c. (brown) sugar
2 Tbsp. - cocoa 2 Tbsp. cocoa
2 tsp. baking powder 1 cup cold water
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 cup milk
4 T. shortening
1 tsp. vanilla
(optional 1/2 c nuts)

Oven 357º Pan 7x10 greased & floured. Bake 30 min:
PART 1: Sift flour, sugar and cocoa add milk and beat well. Add shortening, & vanilla and beat till fluffy. Mix in nuts & pour into the pan.
PART 2: Combine 1/2 c. sugar, 1/2 c. brown sugar, 2 Tbsp. cocoa in a separate bowl. Mix well and sprinkle over top of cake batter. Pour 1 c. cold water on top and bake.
Leave this cake in pan until ready to serve. Cut into squares, then with pancake turner lift and turn each piece upside down. The icing will be on top.
