Ingredients:  
- 1/2 cup - butter
- 3 -4 - Spanish onions - sliced
- 3 tbsp - all purpose flour
- 3 cups / cans - beef stock
- 2 beef bouillon cubes
- 2 tbsp - brown sugar
- 1 tbsp - worchestershire sauce
- 4 1/4 cups - water
- 1/2 tsp - garlic powder
- salt & pepper to taste
- French bread - cut in slices and toasted - for as many bowls being served
- 1 cup - mozzarella or Swiss cheese - grated

Directions:
Directions:
- in a Dutch oven melt butter
- add onions, saute until golden, not crispy
- add flour, mix till creamy
- stir in broth a little at a time till incorporated
- add remaining ingredients
- cover and simmer on low 3 hours
- pour into oven proof bowls
- top each bowl with a piece of bread and some cheese
- broil in oven till cheese is melted and golden
- serve

This can also be done in a slow cooker on low all day.
