1 chocolate or devils food cake mix

Middle Layer:
1 cup sugar
2/3 cup solid vegetable shortening (Crisco)
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 small can (2/3 cup) evaporated milk
2 tsp. vanilla
pinch of salt

Frosting:
1 cup sugar
5 T. margarine
1/3 cup milk
1 cup (6 oz.) chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Prepare cake mix as directed. Pour batter into a greased jelly roll pan (10x15). Bake at 350º for about 15 - 20 minutes (until toothpick comes out clean).
Cream middle layer together and beat for 5 - 7 minutes on high. Spread on cooled cake.
Combine and bring to a boil the frosting and cook 1 minute longer.
Remove from heat and beat in chocolate chips. Stir until smooth. Cool, then pour over white cream layer.
