1/2 c shortening'1 1/2 c sugar
2 eggs1 Tbs, vanilla
1 Tbs. butter
1 oz. red color
3 Tbs cocoa
2 1/2 c flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tsp salt
1Tbs vinegar
1 tsp soda

Cream shortening, sugar, eggs and flour. Make a past of cocoa and food color. Add to first mixture. Alternate , add flour and buttermilk. Mix soda and vinegar in a small bowl, add to batter. Blend. Bake at 350. Let cool completely

No Bake icing.
1 # powdered sugar
1/2 c shortening
1 Tbs.vanilla
1/4 tsp. butter
1/2 tsp salt 2 Tbs milk
Another Icing
Thicken 1 c milk with 3 Tbs flour and 1/4 c water, (more or less) Mix flour and water first and add Milk . Cook then set aside to cool. Beat 1 c sugar, 1/2 c butter, 1/2 c crisco, 1Tbs vanilla. Mix with mixer. Add to other ingredients mix until smooth.
