1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. molasses
3/4 t. soda
1/4 t. salt
1 egg
1/2 c. sour milk (1/2 c. milk 2/ 1T lemon juice or vinegar
1/6 c. hot water
3/4 t. ginger
2 c. flour

Cream together shortening and sugar. Add molasses, slightly beaten egg, milk,and water.
Combine dry ingredients. Add to sugar mixture.
Pour into 8 x 8 pan.
Bake at 350 until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
Serve with whipping cream.
