1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup lard or butter
3 eggs
4 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon vanilla

1 pound dates, cut fine
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup water

Cream together sugars and lard/butter. Add eggs. Sift together flour, soda and salt. Add to sugar mixture. Add vanilla. For filling - boil dates, sugar and water until thick enough to spread. Cool. Roll cookie dough about 1/4 inch thick. Spread with filling; roll as jelly roll and set in ice box so they will slice nicely. Bake at 350.
