1 cup shortening
1-1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
2-3/4 cups flour
2 teaspoon cream of tarter
1 teaspoon soda
1/4 teaspoon salt

ROLL IN:
2 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs. Add flour, cream of tarter, soda and salt. Form into balls (size of date walnuts) and roll into sugar mixture. Place 2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake about 10 minutes in 400º oven.

These cookies puff up at first during baking and then flatten out with crinkled tops. Tops will be lightly browned but soft when done.
