1/2 c water
1 c sugar
1 c raisins
1/2 c butter or margarine
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
2 tbsp cocoa
1/4 tsp salt

Boil all above ingredients together for ten minutes, cool.

2 tsp soda
3 tbsp cold water
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour

Dissolve soda in water and add to boiled mixture. Mix in the vanilla and flour. Bake in greased 8x8 pan at 350 for about 45 minutes. I would use 9x13 and make squares.
Use a large sauce pan and you will have no mixing bowl to wash.
