2/3 c. Shortening
1 1/2 c. Firmly packed Brown Sugar
1 T. Water
1 tsp. Vanilla
2 Eggs
1 1/2 c. Flour
1/3 c. Unsweetened Baking Cocoa
1/4 tsp. Baking Soda
1/2 tsp. Salt
2 c. Semi Sweet Chocolate Chips
1 c. Chopped Nuts, opt.

Combine shortening, brown sugar, water and vanilla in a large mixing bowl. Beat with mixer until creamy. Beat eggs into cream mixture. In another bowl, combine flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. Mix into creamed mixture until well blended. Stir in chocolate chips and nuts. Drop by rounded tablespoon 2 inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 7-9 min. Yields: 3 dozen.
