2 cups sugar
2 cups molasses
1 1/2 cups shortening
1 cup sour milk
1 cup boiling water
2 teaspoons baking soda
2 teaspoons ginger
1 teaspoon salt
Flour

Directions:
Directions:
Mix sugar, molasses, and shortening together. Add sour milk and a little flour. To 1 cup of boiling water add 2 teaspoons baking soda and add to the mixture. Stir in more flour with the ginger and salt. Add enough flour to make a dough that can be handled. Roll out thick and cut into circles.
Bake @ 375º F.

I remember Mom baking these in the Fall after school had begun again. We would come home from school and have a warm Bowler for a snack. Home made applesauce was often served with these cookies for a desert.
