1/2 c. Margerine or shortening
1c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. raisins
1 c. chopped nuts (optional)
1 3/4 c. sifted flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. thick, sweetened applesauce

Directions:
Directions:
Coat raisins in flour. Cream margarine and sugar, beat in egg, nuts and raisins. Sift flour with salt, baking soda and spices. Stir into mixture and add applesauce that has been heated: mix well.
Pour into desired baking pans and bake in 325º oven 1/2 to 1 hour or when toothpickcomes out clean when inserted into middle of cake.
Let cool, frost with caramel icing.
