1 lb. pitted dates
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 c. sugar
2 T. melted butter
1 egg
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Pour boiling water over dates and let stand while you mix sugar and butter. Add egg and beat well.
Mix flour, baking soda, and salt and set aside. Drain water from dates and save. Then add water drained from dates alternating with dry ingredients to sugar mixture. Add dates, nuts, and vanilla. Pour into greased and floured loaf pans. Bake 1 hour at 350º.
