1 cup butter
1 cup dark brown sugar
2 1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
4 tablespoon sour cream
1 cup chopped pecans

Directions:

Preheat oven to 375º. Cream butter and sugar. Add sifted dry ingredients alternately with sour cream. Stir in nuts. Shape dough into 2 rolls. Chill overnight. Slice into thin slices and bake on cookie sheet at 375 from 8-12 minutes.

The logs or rolls freeze beautifully. Before she moved to Greensboro, Mother would make about a dozen of them and bring them up, the best type of slice and bake cookies. My friends started calling them election cookies because I always brought them when we worked the election.

They are great with tea and perfect with dessert wines like sauternes and Reislings.
