2 c. packed light brown sugar
¾ c margarine or shortening
2 eggs
2 ½ c sifted flour
1 t. cinnamon
½ t. each: allspice, ginger, nutmeg
½ t. salt
1 t. baking powder
¼ t. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 c. golden raisens, plumped in hot water and drained.
1 c. chopped walnuts
Lemon frosting(if desired)

Directions:

Cream sugar and margarine until smooth and fluffy. Beat in eggs. Sift flour with spices, salt, baking powder, and soda. Add flour mixture alternating with buttermilk to creamed mixture. Stir in raisins and nuts.
Spread in greased 15x10x1” pan.
Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes.
Cool, frost if desired, and cut into bars.
Yield: 6 Dozen
