2 cups sugar
3/4 cup shortening or 1/2 cup butter
2 eggs
1 cup sour milk
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 cups sifted AP flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cocoa
1 cup boiling water

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar and eggs one at a time.

Add vanilla to milk.

Alternate flour and milk (sift flour w/salt, soda and cocoa). Divide milk in 1/3s and flour in 1/4s.

Add boiling water all at one time. Mix well.

Bake in three layers for 350º for 30 minutes.
