Lura Brown


1 c sugar
1 c salad oil
2 eggs
2 c sifted flour
1 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
Chopped nuts
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp allspice
1 c buttermilk
1 c pitted, chopped dates
1 tsp vanilla

Combine sugar, oil and eggs, beating until smooth and creamy. Sift together dry ingredients, and add alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture. Mix until smooth. Stir in nuts, dated and vanilla. Pour batter into a greased and floured 9X12X2-inch pan. Bake at 300 degrees for 55 to 6o minutes. Cool cake in pan. Spread cake with icing if desired.
