1 lb linguini
1 or 2 onions - chopped
1/2 - 1 C chopped fresh basil
1/4 C olive oil
2 - 4 cloves minced garlic
1 T Italian Seasoning
1/4 C chopped fresh Italian parsley
1 C white wine
1/4 C sherry or Marsala
2 cans clams, chopped or minced - save juice
2 cans tomato sauce ( 8 oz)
Salt and pepper to taste
Parmesan or Romano cheese to taste
1 bottle clam juice ( optional)
Red pepper flakes (optional)

Directions:
In a large saucepan, saute onions and garlic in oil til soft. DO NOT BURN. Add tomato sauce, reserved clam juice and bottled juice (if using), Italian Seasoning, salt and pepper. Simmer about 5 minutes. Add clams, basil and wines. Keep simmering about 30 - 45 minutes until it cooks down a little. Cook linguini according to package directions and drain. Put linguine in dish and toss with some of the sauce. Sprinkle top with cheese and chopped parsley. Pour remaining sauce in bowl and serve with the linguini so guests can add more sauce if they like.
