1 8 oz. pkg. dates
1 1/2 cup boiling water
1/4 t. baking soda
Let this cool and set.

Mix:
1 1/4 c. flour
3/4 t. soda
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
1/2 shortening
Add this to the above mixture.

Topping: Put on before baking

1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. nuts
1 small package chocolate chips

Bake at 350º for 35 - 40 minutes.
