1/2 c. shortening
3/4 c. sugar
1 egg
1 T. milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 3/4 c. flour
3/4 tsp. cream of tarter
3/4 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shredded coconut, toasted until light brown

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Beat together the egg, milk and vanilla and add to shortening mixture. Mix well. Sift dry ingredients and add to wet. Stir in coconut. Form into small balls. Place on cookie sheets and flatten balls with a fork to make a criss-cross pattern on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes.
