2 lbs. beef stew meat
½ c. flour
2 tbsp. oil
1 bay leaf
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
3 onions, cut in eighths
2-3 cloves chopped garlic
1 c. beef bouillon
¼ tsp. pepper
2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. sugar
6 carrots
1 c. sliced celery
4 -6 potatoes
2 medium turnips
1 ½ c. chopped tomatoes
3 c. water

Cut meat into 1 ½ inch cubes and coat with flour; set excess flour aside. In large skillet heat oil and brown meat on all sides. In crock pot combine browned beef, bay leaf, Worcestershire sauce, chopped onion, bouillon, pepper, salt, sugar and vegetables - peeled and cubed. Pour water over all. Cover and cook on low 8 to 10 hours. Turn control on high. Thicken with flour left over from coating meat (about ¼ cup) dissolved in a small amount of water. Cover and cook on high 10-15 minutes or until slightly thickened. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
