2 gal. cucumbers
1 pt. canning salt
boiling water

alum (1 tsp. to 1/2 gal. water)

5 pts. sugar
5 pts. vinegar
2 Tbsp. pickling spice

3 c. sugar

Directions:
Directions:

Put cucumbers in stone jar. Cover with salt and 1 gallon boiling water. Let stand 7 days.

Drain. Cover with boiling water. Let stand 24 hours.

Drain. Cover with boiling water and alum (1 tsp. to 1/2 gal water). Let stand 24 hours.

Drain. Cover with boiling syrup made of 5 pts.sugar, vinegar, and pickling spices. Let stand 24 hours.

For 5 days, drain daily and reheat liquid to boiling and pour back over cucumbers. On each of last 3 days, add 1 c. sugar.

Pack in sterilized jars, cap, and place in cold packer canner. Cover with hot water, cover canner with lid and bring to a boil. Reduce to a medium boil and process 10 minutes for pints and 15 minutes for quarts.
