1 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. butter
1/4 c. shortening
2 eggs
1 c. milk
2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
3 large apples (I like Harrolson best), peeled, cored and grated
3/4 c. chopped walnuts
Streusel topping:
1 c. flour
2/3 c. butter
2/3 c. sugar
6 tbsp. brown sugar
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/3 c. chopped walnuts
3/4 c. chopped walnuts

Mix sugars, shortening, butter and eggs. Sift flour, soda, baking powder, and salt together. Add to first mixture with vanilla. Let stand while preparing apples. Peel, core and grate apples. Fold into first mixture with nuts. Spoon into greased 9 x 13 in. pan. Combine streusel topping ingredients except nuts and sprinkle over top. Then sprinkle nuts over streusel. Bake at 350 for 35-40 min. Cool.
