8 egg whites
2 cups sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
pinch of salt
1 tsp. vanilla

Filling:
1.5 pints whipping cream
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 small jar red maraschino cherries, drained well
1 small jar green maraschino cherries, drained well
1 large can crushed pineapple, drained well
1 cup chopped pecan

Directions:
Directions:
Let eggs stand room temperature for 30 minutes. Separate yolks and whites. Place whites in mixing bowl with baking powder and salt. Beat on high until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar until well dissolved and at the end add vanilla and beat until mixture is thick and starts to get stiff. Place in a 9x13 UNGREASED pan and distribute evenly in pan. Place in a preheated 500 degree oven. Turn oven off immediately and let sit overnight in oven. Next day, prepare filling by beating whipping cream, powdered sugar and vanilla until stiff. Then blend in by hand the pineapple, cherries and nuts just until combined. Spread mixture on top of schaum torte and refrigerate until ready to serve.
