1 1/4 cups chopped dates
1 cup hot water
1 1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup soft butter
1 cup rolled oats (quick cooking)
1 cup chocolate chips

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Grease a 13 x 9 inch pan.

Combine dates and hot water and set aside.

Mix together flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside.

Combine margarine, sugar, and vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy. Add egg. Add flour mixture, oats, and stir in date mixture. Add 1/2 cup chocolate chips to batter. Pour into prepared pan. Sprinkle with remaining chips.

Bake for 35-40 minutes.
