1-1/4 C.cups chopped dates
1 cup hot water
1-1/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup soft margarine
1 cup rolled oats (quick cooking)
1 cup chocolate chips

Combine dates and hot water and set aside. Mix together flour, baking soda and salt. Set aside. Combine margarine, sugar, and vanilla. Beat until light and fluffy. Add egg. Add flour mixture, oats and stir in date mixture. Add 1/2 cup chocolate chips to batter. Pour into greased 13x9 pan. Sprinkle with remaining chips. Bake at 350 for 35-40 minutes.
