3/4 cup soft shortening (part butter)
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
3 tbsp milk
1 tsp vanilla
2 cups sifted flour
3/4 tsp soda
1 tsp salt
2 cups rolled oats
1 1/2 cups cut-up dates
3/4 cup chopped nuts

Directions:
Directions:
Mix shortening, brown sugar, eggs, milk and vanilla together thoroughly. Sift flour, soda and salt together and stir in. Stir in oats, dates and nuts. Chill dough. Roll into balls size of large walnuts. Place 3" apart on lightly greased baking sheet. Flatten (to 1/4") with bottom of glass dipped in flour. Bake until lightly browned at 375º for 10 - 12 minutes. Makes about 4 dozen 2 1/2" cookies.
