1/2 cup soft shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup sour milk
1 tsp. vinegar
2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
3/4 tsp. cinnamon

Mix: shortening, sugar and molasses
Stir in: milk and vinegar
Sift together: flour, soda, salt and spices and add to wet mixture.
Drop rounded teaspoonfuls 2 1/2 inches apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Place 3 raisins in center of dough. Bake at 375 degrees for 10-12 minutes. (cookies will be soft). Cool 1 minute. Remove from cookie sheet. Sad little monkey faces look at you.

This is an old family favorite. Molasses is really good for you. They are soft and chewy.
