1 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
3 cups quick oatmeal
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Thoroughly cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well. Sift together flour, salt and soda; add to creamed mixture. Stir in oats and nuts. Mix well. Form dough in rolls, 1 to 1 1/2" in diameter. Wrap in waxed paper. Chill thoroughly. With sharp knife, slice cookies about 1/4" thick. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet in moderate oven (350º) 10 minutes or till lightly browned. Makes 5 dozen.
