1 lb. small boiling onions
1tbs butter or olive oil
2 3/4 tbs sugar
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1/2 cup water
salt & pepper to taste

Directions:
Directions:
Parboil the onions in enough water to cover for about 3 minutes. Drain and let sit until cool enough to handle. Cut the roots off and peel the onions, making sure to remove all papery layers. Cut an "X" into the root end. Mix the rest of the ingredients and bring to a boil with the cleaned onions. Simmer until the liquid is somewhat reduced.
