2 cups sifted flour
1/2 tsp salt
3 cups rolled oats
1 cup shortening - part butter
1 tsp soda dissolved in 1/3 cup milk (sweet or sour)
1 1/2 cups brown sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Mix together flour, salt and oats. Cut in shortening until mixture is well blended. Stir in soda with milk and brown sugar. Chill dough. Roll out 1/8" thick. Cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased baking sheet. Bake until lightly browned. When cool, and just before serving put together in pairs with jelly or jam between. 375º, 10 - 12 minutes. Makes 4 dozen.
