2 Bosc pears
1 cup red wine
1/2 can sugar
2 whole cloves
1 piece cinnamon stick
4 allspice berries
1 pinch nutmeg
1 pod cardamom, crushed

Directions:
Directions:
Peel, halve and core pears. Set aside. Combine rest of ingredients in a glass measure and microwave for 3 minutes. Stir, cover with plastic wrap and cook for 5 minutes longer. Arrange pears in a microwave safe dish, cored side up. Strain reserved liquid over the pears. Cover with plastic wrap and cook in microwave for 12 minutes. Cool in syrup.

To poach in white wine: Follow same procedure, substituting 1 piece of orange peel and 1 of lemon peel and 1 clove for each pear instead of other seasonings. Prepared in a 850 watt oven. Adjust time or power according to the wattage of your oven.
