Ingredients: 6 to 61/2 cups flour, 1 tsp salt, 1 cup milk, 2 tsp grated orange peel, 4 eggs (to beat into mixture), 3/4 cup sugar, 2 envelopes active dry yeast, 1/4 cup water, 1 tsp nutmeg, 1 cup raisin, 12 uncooked eggs/colored/still in shell!

Directions:Large bowl mix 2 cups flour, sugar, salt & yeast. In small sauce pan over low heat combine milk, water, butter, orange peel, & nutmeg. Heat to very hot. Stir that mixture into yeast mixture & beat 2 minutes with electric mixer. Add 3 eggs & 1 cup of flour. Beat at high speed-3minutes. Stir in raisins & some flour to make soft dough. Knead on floured board about 10 minutes. Form into ball & put in greased bowl. Cover & let rise in warm place till dough is doubled-about 1 hour. then punch down dough, divide into 12 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a rope about 8 inches long, about 1 1/2 inches thick. Wrap each rope around a colores raw egg (in shell) to make a nest. Wet ends of rope with water & pinch together to seal. Place nests on greased baking sheets, cover & let rise again in warm place about 45 minutes. Beat remaining (unshelled) eggs with 1 teaspoon of water. Brush nests with egg wash. Bake 350 º oven about 20 minutes till nests are browned & make hollow sound when tapped. -Cool. When coole, put in plastic bags & close tightly & put into fridge. Bring to room temperature to serve. |
