1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
1 1/4 cups sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
2 cups fresh blackberries (or frozen, thawed and drained)
4 teaspoons sugar

Preheat oven to 375º. Grease and flour muffin pan.

In a large bowl, cream the butter and 1-1/4 cups sugar with an electric mixer until light. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.

In a small bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture alternately with the milk. Fold in the berries. Divide the batter among the prepared muffin cups in the muffin pan. Sprinkle the remaining sugar over the batter.

Bake for about 30 minutes. Serve warm or at room temperature.
