3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup raisins

1. Beat shortening and 1 cup sugar until light and fluffy.
2. Add molasses and egg; beat well.
3. Combine flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves, ginger, and salt.
4. Add flour to molasses mixture; mix well.
5. Stir in raisins.
6. Cover; refrigerate until chilled.
7. Shape into 1" balls; roll in sugar.
8. Bake in upper 1/3 of 350 oven. Bake 10 minutes, cool 1 minute.
