2 1/4 cups sifted cake flour
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 pkg. Baker's German Sweet Choc. (4 ounces)
1/2 cup boiling water
1 cup butter or shortening
2 cups sugar
4 egg yolks, unbeaten
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup buttermilk
4 egg whites, stiffly beaten

Coconut-Pecan Frosting:

1 cup evaporated milk
1 cup sugar
3 egg yolks, slighty beaten
1/2 cup margerine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/3 cups cocunut
1 cup pecans

Cake:
1. Measure flour, add soda anda salt, sift together.
2. Melt chocolate in boiling water, cool.
3. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.
4. Add yolks one at a time, beating after each.
5. Add chocolate and vanilla.
6. Add flour mixture alternately with buttermilk, beating after each addition until smooth.
7. Beat egg whites to stsiff peaks; fold into batter.
8. Bake in 3 round 8 inch pans, lined on bottoms with wax or greased paper.
9. Bake at 350º for 30 to 40 minutes.

Frosting:
1. Combine evaporated milk, sugar, egg yolks, margerine and vanilla in sauce pan.
2. Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture thickens, about 12 minutes.
3. Add coconut and pecans; beat until thick enough to spread.
