Cake:
1-1/2 cups cake flour
1/3 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
1/3 cup butter
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp. vanilla

Filling:
3/4 cup sugar
1/3 cup flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 cups scalded milk or cream
2 slightly beaten eggs
1 tsp. vanilla

Chocolate Glaze:
2 cups sugar
2 oz. baking chocolate
2 Tbsp. white corn syrup
3/4 cup milk
2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
1 tsp. vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
To make cake; sift flour, salt and baking powder and set aside. In a large bowl, beat butter until creamy. Add the sugar gradually. Mix thoroughly. Add the eggs and beat thoroughly. Gradually add milk and flour mixture alternating until all is mixed in. Add vanilla and mix. Pour into 2 greased 8-inch pans. Bake at 375-degrees for about 25 minutes.

Make filling by combining sugar, flour and salt in a bowl. Swirl in the milk or cream until smooth and thick. Add the eggs and stir. Cook in a double boiler until thicken. Cool and add the vanilla. Chill thoroughly. Put the custard between the cake layers and glaze with chocolate.

To make glaze put sugar, chocolate, corn syrup and milk in a saucepan. Heat stirring only until the sugar is dissolved. Cook to the softball stage. (238- degrees) Add the butter and remove from heat. Place saucepan in cold water. When lukewarm, add the vanilla. Beat it to the right consistency and spread on top of cake.
