3/4 c. shortening
2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
2 t. baking soda
1 egg
1 t. cinnamon
4 T. molasses
1/2 t. cloves

1 t. ginger

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together the shortening and the sugar. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and molasses well. Mix the creamed shortening and sugar with the beaten egg and molasses. Mix the flour, soda, cinnamon, cloves and ginger together, and then add to the other mixture. Roll in 1 in. balls and then roll in granulated sugar. Place the balls far apart on a cookie sheet. Bake at 350º for 10-12 minutes. The cookies will flatten by themselves.
