3/4 cup shortening
1/3 cup molasses
1 cup sugar
1 egg beaten
2 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon. cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon cloves
2 teaspoons baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350º.
2. In a large bowl, beat together shortening, sugar, molasses and egg.
3. In a separate bowl, sift together flour, salt, cinnamon, ginger, cloves and baking soda.
4. Mix flour mixture into molasses mixture.
5. Shape dough into small balls and dip in sugar.
6. Place on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 8-10 minutes. Cool on pan.
