2-3 slices Italian bread
salt and pepper
chopped onion
1-2 eggs

Directions:
Soak bread in water. Wring out and crumble into meat. Mix with remaining ingredients. Shape into balls, then roll into flour. Bake at 350º until brown, turning once. While meatballs are baking, cook 1-2 sliced onions, 2 stalks celery and 7-8 carrots in water.

Remove meatballs from sheet. Drain grease, then scrape remaining bits of meatball from cookie sheet and add to vegetables. Cook meatballs with vegetables for several hours. Gravy will thicken.

Serve over mashed potatoes.

Personal Notes:
Dad's mother, Caroline (known to us as Ba) gave this recipe to mom so that she could make it for dad. We still debate on how to pronounce the name of the dish - "cutlets" or "cootlets."
