1 c. Crisco
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 oz. red food color
2 eggs
1 c. buttermilk
2 c. flour
1 T. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. vinegar

Thoroughly cream sugar and crisco. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each. Add food color, mix well. Add flour, salt & cocoa, which has been sifted together, alternately with buttermilk. Add vanilla. Fold in soda & vinegar, which has been mixed WELL. Make sure soda & vinegar is mixed into batter WELL. Pour batter into 3 prepared 8 inch cake pans. Bake @ 350 degrees
for approximately 30 minutes. Remove from oven to wire racks. let cool in pans for 5-10 minutes. Remmove from pans and allow to cool completely.
Frost with Cream Cheese Icing.
