1 Cup Molasses
1 Cup Sour Milk (to make sour milk, add 1 tsp of vinegar to milk and let set a few minutes).
2 1/4 Cup Flour
1 3/4 Tsp. Baking Soda
2 Tsp. Ginger
1/2 Tsp. Salt
1 egg, beaten
1/2 Cup Shortening, melted.

Preheat oven to 350º
Grease and flour 9 inch square pan.

Mix together molasses and milk; set aside. Sift together flour, baking soda, ginger and salt; stir in molasses mixture, egg and shortening. Pour into pan and bake for 30 minutes or until toothpick comes out clean.
