2/3 c brown sugar
1/2 c oleo
1 egg
2 cup sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ginger
speck of cloves
1/2 c white karo syrup
3/4 c dates (cut up)
3/4 c nuts
Confectioner's sugar (optional)


Directions:
Directions:
Sift together dry ingredients. Cream sugar and butter, add eggs, dates and nuts. Gradually stir in flour mixture.

Pour into lightly greased 9 x l3 x 2 inch baking pan. Preheat oven 350F for about 25 minutes. Cool in pan about 15 minutes. After they are cooled, cut into bars and, if desired, roll in confectioner's sugar.
